A people get the leader they deserve. How true is this?

For some years now, many people have had to make this remark about a people getting the leader they deserve. More often that not, the remark comes handy when the people are going through very difficult and trying times. Looking at this remark, it sounds logical and it tends to make sense. Indeed the statement must have been first uttered by someone who stood in convinced awareness of the working of the Law of Reciprocal Action in Creation which stipulates that whatever a man sows that shall he reap. And of course this particular Law of Creation is immutable and adamatine.

However, it is of great importance that anyone who finds it expedient or appropriate to utter this statement and those who hear it should know the context in which this statement is applicable and relevant. In the first place, we should recall what was once recorded in the Bible as having been proclaimed by God when He said “My Thoughts are not your thoughts. And just as the heavens tower high above the earth, so are My Thoughts above yours”.

In the elective process which is a direct offshoot of the concept of democracy, people choose their leaders via the ballot box. He who emerges as leader is the summation of the volition of a number of people that voted for him. Therefore they cannot complain or start vexing if the supposed leader turns out to be a human monster and tyrant. They chose him. God was completely out of the picture because democracy is all about the government of people by the people and for the people. Where or how does God come in here?

In God’s own plan, a people should get the leader they need. Governance belongs to God in an absolute sense. Man was not ordained in Creation to choose or determine a leader for himself. He lacks the wisdom for this and even the prerogative. For the fallen human creature on earth, he will continue to get the leader he deserves so long as he exercises the prerogative to choose for himself. This is the context in which to see this concept. After the final judgement and in the kingdom of peace of earth, man will get the leader he needs. The leader that will lead him upwards.
